Okay...but all traffic has SOME value, right? No traffic is utterly worthless!

Maybe so...but lots of it is pretty close. For example, I read a few minutes ago a blog post about one marketer who generated several million visitors to his web site using 1 cent clicks on the Google content network. Now, nowhere in the post did he talk about how many of those visitors became regular readers, how many signed up for his list, or even how much money he made as a result. Why? Because in MOST cases, this sort of traffic doesn't convert at all, and unless you are doing a sophisticated affiliate marketing scale out (or personal branding campaign) by and large this traffic is purely for ego gratification alone. (as in...it let's you write blog posts about generating millions of visitors)

How about social networking traffic? Is it roughly the same thing?

Yes, it is...and I don't' care who tells you otherwise. For the most part, getting a story "Dugg" or getting an avalanche of eyeballs in front of your site, service or offer by a very general audience is rarely very valuable. Making money online is about list building, and highly targeted traffic. If you aren't getting either of those, you best spend more time concentrating on THAT part of your business, and less time counting the hollow numbers that are effectively meaningless for most of us!
